WOW: 365 Challenge Day 24

Scripture:  And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”  Luke 22: 31-32

Devotion:  1 Peter 5:8 tells us Satan roams around like a lion looking for someone to devour. Sometimes I think we can forget how ruthless the devil is. A lion is a fierce animal.  It has the ability to devour its prey, devour not harm or injure but devour.  We have an enemy that sashays around waiting, looking for the right moment to attack and subdue.  He never plays fair and knows when you are vulnerable and at your weakest.

In Luke chapter 22, Jesus warns Peter of the devil’s plan and prays for him.  He didn’t tell him he would send the devil away, but instead prayed that his faith would not fail.  Peter could not avoid the attack but Jesus knew the power of prayer and exactly what weapon Peter would need to not be consumed.

When faced with battles it is our faith that is challenged.  The enemy went right to Peter’s weak spot, faith, and tried to destroy him. He knew if Peter lost his confidence in what Jesus represented, he could have him.  Did you ever stop to think why Peter was the target?  In Matthew 16:18 after Peter loses his battle and is restored, these words are spoken, “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail.”  Peter had a major assignment he was not privy to but the enemy was.

After being filled with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, Peter went on to address the crowd of unbelievers and three thousand were saved that day.  Peter continued to boldly represent the Kingdom of God.  It was Peter who was imprisoned and freed from jail by angels. He also healed the lame and raised the dead.  If you ask me that would be enough for the adversary to target.

If your faith has been weakened and your warfare unbelievable, I’d find it fair to say the enemy probably has a better idea of where you are going than you.  If you feel your faith has been weakened, allow Jesus to restore you. Your assignment, although hidden from your eyes,, has gotten the attention of the  prowling lion’s eyes.

Reflection:  You are more important than you realize.  Your level of warfare is seen as a threat to the enemy.  No one fights an enemy that doesn’t have the potential to usurp their power.  Stay steadfast and cling to Jesus.  Your warfare is not in vain.  Galatians 6:9, “Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.”

Prayer:  Lord help us to not lose heart when we are close to breakthrough.  Restore our faith in you and give us the strength to run again. Give us the tenacity to get back up and to strengthen our brother.
